I'm not making a passionate defense of swearing, I'm making a passionate defense of not having staffers harass people who aren't bothering anybody. Unless somebody is causing issues for others, they should be left alone. The babysitting staffers that make the game about as fun as a pepper spray enema are what bothers me and I'd rather see the practice of being told what to do constantly go away. Just have the staff back the fuck off and leave people alone unless they have damn good reason to get involved. Otherwise it turns into "omfg I can't say anything without the karmahammer" Hell, I remember when saying omfg would get you karma because it was an abbreviated swear word so it still counted, as did lmao. Do we really want that kind of assholishness in our game constantly?

Re: Keeping the game a game
Being able to say "Fck off" to someone in a friendly way on C2 wtithout having someone go "language" is all I'm asking for. Once it becomes "Fck off bitch etcetc" I understand a /shutup or something along those lines. Karma, negs and bans for stuff like that is going too far unless its actually proper harassment.
I'm all for preventing extreme swearing and insulting, but it has to actually disturb people before it should be an issue.

Yeah I agree Timber and honestly the staffers usually know when it's proper harassment because all a player has to do is vent their annoyance / frustration to a staffer and then the staffer can execute proper methods of discipline which normally will be warnings and /shutup's.

Yea, but right now the policy is "staffers are to instigate harassment for mild infractions" I'd like to see it become "staffers exercise personal restraint unless something actually needs to be done" which is my point. Nobody likes being babysat.
And some of the most horrific, disgusting things I've heard have come out of the mouths of kids between 5 and 12 playing counter strike.

2 things about that situation:
- He didnt say we had to stop talking about it, he simply said it shouldnt be discussed in the game, as things can easily be seen by people logging on just now, and misunderstanding whats being said
- He is a new staffer, I'm sure he will learn how to say things better in the future.

With that logic you shouldn't have any discussion at all ever since someone can always log on in the middle of it and misunderstand itTimber wrote:2 things about that situation:

As for not saying we should stop, he implied it and just disrupted it completely causing it to stop.
Being new is not an excuse, we have this lovely forum where I've asked several times to not silence conversations, I've told freya this aswell, who as "head of all staffers" should give guidelines to new staffers what can & can't be done

I don't see what is to be misunderstood about that. It seems like a perfectly valid gossip discussion, being, you know, gossip. What freaking ridiculousness. This game is a time killer, maybe I should just stop anyways if it is going to be like this and just keep getting worse down that path.
